If heading to the gym doesn’t top your priority list these days, there are still plenty of ways to stay active. No matter what type of exercise you like to do, you can find ways to do it in the comfort of your own home or neighborhood.
4 Workouts That Don't Need a Gym
Here are some workouts that don’t require a gym membership or a big investment in equipment.
Walking
This is one of the easiest things you can do to stay active. But a walking workout can be as versatile as you want it to be.
Add intervals of fast and slow walking to challenge your cardiovascular system or work up to jogging or running for the duration.
Change your route to include some hills or go “off-road” and engage different muscles than when walking on pavement or around the track.
Or stop periodically during your walk to do some body-weight exercises along the way.
Body-Weight Exercises
Strength training is an important component of working out. Don't ignore it just because you’re not at the gym or don’t own a set of weights.
There are many exercises you can do that strengthen your muscles by using your own body weight. Do some push-ups, squats, crunches, lunges, planks or mountain climbers.
If you like the idea of lifting weights, find household objects that may work in a pinch – a gallon jug of water, some cans of soup or a filled backpack, for example.
Yoga
All you need are some comfortable clothes and a mat if you have one. You can find plenty of options online for learning yoga poses or following a yoga workout at any level. Whether you’re a novice or an experienced yogi, this is one workout that will challenge your body and help soothe your mind.
