Women’s History Month at UVA Health

women's history month at uva health

Women’s History Month is an opportunity to honor the women at UVA Health who have been part of the historical expansion of gender equity and parity at this organization and beyond.

UVA Health actively supports research, healthcare programs, and policies that prioritize and enhance women’s health and well-being.

The Impact of Gender Inequity

Women make up half of our population. Gender equity – or the lack of it –  impacts all of us.

In healthcare, gender gaps in medical research and healthcare have deep roots. Our dedication to addressing these gaps is a crucial step toward inspiring health and hope for all Virginians and beyond.

Highlighting the History-Makers

Many women have advocated for equity, diversity, and inclusion in healthcare throughout our organization’s history.

Such efforts continue today: The UVA School of Medicine Committee on Women in Medicine and Science (COWIMS) continuously recognizes women driving gender inclusion at UVA Health.

Many of these efforts extend that inclusion to women in underserved demographics. We have research and outreach programs that expand healthcare access to older women, women of color, women in the LGBTQ+ community, women from other countries, and more.

We’re excited to continue to share these advances in healthcare equity.
