Men’s Health Tips (Page 2)

A man with beer and fast food needs men's health tips to prevent serious medical issues. The stereotype is everywhere. Watch any comedy TV show featuring a married man, and you’ll see the overweight guy who dismisses healthcare in favor of beer and TV. This stereotype reinforces problematic cultural messages around masculinity and self-care. That’s why we have a variety of men’s health tips, articles, and resources.

Men’s Health Tips

As anyone who has had a medical scare or problem knows, ignoring a health issue doesn’t make it go away. And if you don’t want to deal with a health issue, focus on prevention. To keep free of stroke, heart attacks, diabetes, and other conditions, regularly check your:

  • Blood pressure
  • Cholesterol levels
  • Heart disease
  • Blood sugar

Keeping up with your health now means it won’t let you down later.

Don’t skip your doctor’s appointment. Even if you feel OK, getting an annual checkup means your doctor might catch something early on. For many diseases, an early diagnosis means better outcomes. And that lets you avoid more doctor’s visits in the long run. A quick visit can even save your life.

Is stamina important to you? Get that prostate exam. Having a healthy prostate means your plumbing works properly. Ignoring this important annual exam may lead to erectile dysfunction and difficulties urinating.

Have better stuff to do? Get vaccinated. Having the flu, pneumonia, shingles, or COVID-19 can interrupt your work life and romantic adventures.

Want meaty muscles? Eat salads. Any type of vegetable works to support muscles and strengthen bones.

Need to hang tough? Get enough sleep. Sleeping 7 to 9 hours each night keeps you lean and healthy.

Can’t be bothered with a gym? Find a dog. A pet encourages you to get more exercise. This helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol and keeps your weight in check. Pets also help ease stress, anxiety, and loneliness.

At UVA Health, we have specialists you can’t find anywhere else. We also care about keeping you healthy. Read on for more men’s health tips.
